The war in Ukraine, which has not ended yet, does not seem to dampen the supply of weapons to Zelenskyy Country, the latest news is that the Netherlands will send its heavy weaponry system, namely the PzH 2000 155 mm self propelled howitzer (SPH) to Ukraine.
However, the Netherlands did not advance alone, Germany as the manufacturer of the PzH 2000 collaborated by providing munitions supplies and training to Ukrainian military personnel.
The news of the planned delivery of PzH 2000 by the Netherlands was first released by bloomberg.com (20/4/2022), it was stated that the assets of the PzH 2000 belonging to the Dutch Army would be transferred to Ukraine. As for training, due to the unfavorable conditions in Ukraine, it is planned that the training of crew members will be carried out in Germany or Poland.
The SPH PzH 2000 was jointly developed by the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall.
The first prototype PzH 2000 was launched in 1998, after a series of trials, this SPH was handed over to the German Army in July 1998 and the last delivery was made at the end of 2002. So far, the PzH 2000 has been operated by Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Greece, Lithuania , Hungary, Qatar and Croatia.
The main armament of the PzH 2000 is the L52 155mm howitzer with a fully automatic shell loading system and an ammunition management system. This SPH has a maximum firing range of 30 km with standard bullets, or up to 40 km with assisted projectiles. The PzH 2000 can fire all standard 155 mm caliber NATO ammunition.
The PzH 2000 is powered by an MTU 881 diesel engine producing 1,000 hp which is supported by a Renk HSWL automatic transmission with 4 forward and 2 reverse speeds.
The PzH 2000 can go with a maximum speed of 60 km per hour and a maximum cruising range of 420 km. The hull and turret of the PzH 2000 are constructed of welded steel armor construction and provide protection against small arms fire and artillery shrapnel.
The Netherlands currently has 18 units of PzH 2000 in active condition, while there are 38 units in storage depots. Germany as the country of origin of PzH 2000, operates 108 units of PzH 2000.
Although it is not known how the purchase was made, Ukraine has submitted a request for the purchase of 100 units of PzH 2000 to Germany. But the German Chancellor hesitated over the request for the sale, because it was seen as weakening NATO's power structure.
