There are already three countries that have canceled the purchase of the Sukhoi Su-35 from Russia. The three countries are Indonesia, Egypt and Algeria. The three also had different reasons when they decided not to buy the Su-35.
Quoted from aerotime.aero, Indonesia canceled the purchase of the Su-35 due to its limited budget. The decision was announced by the Indonesian Air Chief Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo.
Indonesia has been considering purchasing 11 Su-35s since 2015, but the deal has not progressed.
Meanwhile, Indonesia has also examined several other options, including the Lockheed Martin F-35A, F-16V, and the former Austrian Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon.
On the other hand, as quoted from defense-blog.com, Algeria has decided to concentrate its financial funds on the modernization of the Su-30SM fighter aircraft which has been supplied from Russia.
In addition, Egypt suspended a deal to supply 30 Su-35 fighters due to Russian irregularities in handling imported components.
According to a source from Defense Security Asia, the future of the Russian-made Sukhoi Su-35 (NATO-Flanker E) fighter jet is in doubt after three countries abandoned their plans to buy the aircraft.
This happened for a variety of reasons, one of which was concern about economic sanctions by the United States under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions (CAATSA).
As is well known, the sanctions have prevented many countries from transacting arms and trading with Russia.
It was also because of CAATSA that Russia had difficulty finding radar and avionics components to replace resources sourced from several European countries and Israel withdrew from supplying them to Su-35 makers due to CAATSA pressure.
For this reason, the fate of the Su-35 in the future is still in question.
There are only a few possibilities that could happen, one of which is Iran, which is looking for a new fighter plane to buy the Su-35 from Russia.
