Lockheed Martin set its own record by successfully delivering a total of 750 F-35 Lightning II fighter jets to customers.
By 2021, there will be around 142 fighter jets delivered. While in 2020, there are about 139 fighter jets with their targets being exceeded.
According to Aerotime.aero, this is Lockheed Martin's biggest record since commercializing the F-35 itself.
No fewer than 134 in 2019 and over the past three years, more than half of the world's entire model fleet were delivered, highlighting the rapid increase in jet production.
According to a Lockheed Martin press release, the jet's operational capability will also hit a record high in 2021. This can be seen with some practice showing the mission ability level is more than 80%.
"Providing unparalleled support for a growing fleet, participating in various Joint-All Domains exercises and meeting our delivery targets during a global pandemic is no small feat," Bridget Lauderdale, program vice president and general manager, was quoted in the release.
The F-35 has indeed become one of the most popular fighter jets lately. In 2021, the F-35A was selected by Switzerland and Finland. Later, the UAE also confirmed orders for F-35s during the final hours of the Trump administration.
However, the order was influenced by discussions and disagreements between the US and Israel, both of whom opposed the purchase. Finally, in mid-December 2021, the UAE revealed that the talks would be suspended.
Despite its dealings with the UAE, the F-35 also remains in the process of being acquired by Canada, competing with Sweden's Saab JAS 39 Gripen.
The manufacturer has also made plans to beat its record by 2022, delivering 196 jets, which would push the total of F-35s in service worldwide to more than 900.
