Amid Threats from China and Russia, Japan Air Force's J-15 Fighter Jet Conducts Super Inceptor Program

Tensions in East Asia forced all countries in the region to increase their military strength, including Japan. Recently, the Japanese Air Force collaborated with Boeing to modify the F-15 in the super-inceptor program.

No kidding, Japan poured funds around 471.3 million US dollars to increase the combat power of its F-15.

"Aerospace giant Boeing was awarded a $471.3 million contract action from the US Air Force Lifecycle Management Center for the 'Japanese Super Interceptor' program," explains the Defense Blog.

Judging further from the Defense Blog release, a US Department of Defense contract, Boeing has been awarded to upgrade nearly one hundred F-15 fighter aircraft of the J-variant belonging to the Japanese Air Force.

Where Boeing requested that the Japanese Air Force's F-15 be made to the standard 'Japanese Super Interceptor' (JSI).

The contract act provides for the design and development of an integrated aircraft system suite to support the modification of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's F-15MJ aircraft and the development, testing and delivery of four Weapon System Trainers."

Modification of the F-15 fighter jet belonging to the Japanese Air Force is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.

Where the agreement on the modification of the F-15 fighter jet belonging to the Japanese Navy involves 100 percent of Foreign Military Sales to Japan.

The Japanese government plans to convert its J-variant F-15 fighter into a modern combat platform amid threats from China and Russia.

In addition, earlier in November 2020, Forbes reported that the Japanese fighter aircraft will get a new advanced cockpit system with advanced mission computers. It will also gain new radar, electronic warfare capabilities, and a locally sourced data link system that can interoperate with US data-sharing systems.

Not only that, it is said that the Japanese Air Force's F-15 fighter jets will not be zero-timed or significantly refreshed with the new structure.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the Japanese Air Force's F-15s will not receive the new engines or fly-by-wire flight control systems found in other Advanced Eagles.

"They won't see an increase in range capability and they won't have the nearly 30,000 pound gun payload capability of other EX or Advanced Eagles."

However, of course, with modifications to his F-15 fighter jet, the Japanese Air Force will get a fresh boost in capabilities.

Especially if you have to face various types of fighter jets belonging to China and Russia. Considering Japan's relations with China and Russia that have not been smooth to date.
