British RC-135 Rivet Joint intelligence
gathering aircraft is monitoring russian
forces around crimea. According to the Royal Air Force Website the RC-135W Rivet Joint is a dedicated electronic
surveillance aircraft that can be
employed in all theaters on strategic
and tactical missions. Its sensors, soak up electronic emissions
from communications radar and other
systems.
RC-135W Rivet Joint employs multi-discipline Weapon System Officer (WSO) and Weapon System Operator (WSR) specialists whose
mission is to survey elements of the
electromagnetic spectrum in order to
derive intelligence for commanders. The royal air force say that rivet joint
has been deployed extensively for
operation shader and on other
operational taskings. It had been formally named air seeker
but is almost universally known in
service as the RC-135W Rivet Joint. The UK operates three of these aircraft.
Many reports from the russian media say
that this aircraft is looking for the
russian air defense position in crimea, as reported currently russia has four S-400 air defenses on the Peninsula it
annexed from Ukraine. But the exact
location of the system remains unknown
to the public.
Opposite to russian media reports, british internet edition UK DJ said that the deployment of british
aircraft to the region is a regular
occurrence. We believe it should be reported as and
when it happens to ensure people don't
see this as anything unusual. It should also be noted that these
flights are designed to be visible so
that the public and russia know they're
happening, said the British Media.
UK DJ also shared the aircraft roadmap
as you can see the plane leave its base
and fly all the way to russia to soak up
signals. Even though they say it's a normal
occurrence, many defense experts see this
operation as more than a regular
occurrence. with the rivet joint deployment also
coincided with the french ship presence
in Odessa. Many experts believe that the brits and
the french has something to be done.
On december 24th the command of the
ukrainian navy posted on facebook that
french navy's frigate overn has moored
to one of the births of the Odessa ship
terminal. This type of ship is designed for
anti-ship defense, destruction of surface
ships and strikes on enemy ground
targets. The ukrainian navy press service
also noted that the stop in Odessa is
the first visit of the overn to the sea
waters of ukraine since its admission to
the french navy in 2018.
As reported on december 20th Ukrainian Navy Commander Oleksi Neishpapa
announced that a division of patrol
boats would be stationed at the pivdeni
port in odessa region. It will provide security and defense
functions for ports in the black sea, as
well as Zamini Island. Furthermore, both deployment of british
plane and the french ship to the region
comes two days after russia launches
another military exercise in crimea.
On december 23rd the russian ministry of
defense announced that more than 1,200
paratroopers and more than 250 units of
military hardware equipment will involve
in live fire exercises in the occupied Crimea and Russia Krasnodar territory. The exercises will be held as part of
operational deployment of commanding
officers, led by airborne assault forcesCcommander Colonel General Andrei Sergikov. In total more than 1,200 servicemen and
more than 250 units of military and
special hardware will be involved, the
defense ministry of russian federation
said at the time.
It reported that last week, Russia also
ran a joint exercise in crimea. involving
navy's fighter jets and bombers. With
units operating the bastion coastal
anti-ship missile system to destroy a
surface training target in the black sea.
As reported in recent weeks russia has
amassed nearly 100,000 troops on the
border with ukraine. The latest maneuvers have raised great
concern among western governments over
the fears of moscow's offensive on
ukraine. NATO has warned russia that such a move
would have far-reaching, strategic and
economic consequences. Moscow denies plans of invading ukraine. Explains the latest buildup with the
efforts to prevent ukraine from joining NATO.
Earlier in the week, the Russian President Vladimir Putin also said that
russia will not allow NATO expansion
eastward, which means ukraine joining
nato is a red line for moscow. However the Brits and the French seem
doesn't care about the russian red line. In recent months some NATO countries
like the UK, US, France and Turkey also
have shown concrete support for ukraine
despite russia's warning.
