China Panic, US and Philippines Deploy $3.6 Billion HIMARS Rocket System to Attack China

The U.S and the Philippines discussed the placement of an upgraded rocket system in the south china sea to defend against chinese expansion in the disputed islands. Regional experts told the post that manila and Washington discussed the deployment of a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS). The system which would be able to launch long-range precision guided rockets at a chinese presence in the spratly islands, a cluster of disputed islands in the sea.

China has been steadily increasing its presence in the south china sea. One of the busiest shipping routes in the world and has reportedly reclaimed more than 2,900 acres of land since 2013. The Lockheed Martin rocket system would be able to launch long-range, precision-guided rockets which could strike a chinese presence in the spratly islands, an expert told the media.

The spratly islands are a disputed cluster of islands, reefs and atolls located close to the center of the south china sea. The philippine defense department was allocated p 188.2 billion, 3.6 billion dollars in 2019, a 34 percent increase from the previous year, 3.7 billion dollars in 2020 and expected to reach 3.5 billion dollars by the end of 2021, though it pales in comparison to the united states massive defense budget.

The M-142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System or HIMARS is a light multiple rocket launcher developed in the late 1990s for the united states army, mounted on a standard army M-1140 truck frame.

The HIMARS carries six rockets or one MGM. MGM-140 attic's missile on the us army's new Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) a five-ton truck and can launch the entire Multiple Launch Rocket System Family of Munitions (MFOM).

HIMARS's ammunition is interchangeable with the MLRS M270A1. however it is only able to carry one pod rather than the standard two for the M270 and A1 variants. The launcher is C-130 transportable. 

The chassis was initially produced by bae systems mobility and protection systems formerly armor holdings aerospace and defense group tactical vehicle systems division, the Oem of the fn tv. In 2010 the production of the chassis was taken over by the oshkosh corporation. This ended in 2017 both chassis and launcher systems are now produced by Lockheed Martin missiles and fire control in Camden Arkansas.
