Philippines Signs Contract To Purchase FNSS Saber Turrets From Turkey

Philippines signs contract to purchase FNSS Saber Turrets. Turkish defense company FNSS will provide and integrate stabilized one-man turrets into tracked armored vehicles in the philippines. This will be a project under the defense industry cooperation agreement signed between turkey and the philippines governments.

The turrets are slated to be integrated on the vehicles in 2021 with training and logistics support services to be completed by december that year. The philippine armed forces favored the one-man turrets of different caliber armaments over other products produced by global defense industry giants due to its cost-effectiveness and superior technical features. Within the modernization program of the Philippine Army the main goal of this project is to upgrade the firepower of existing tracked armored vehicles. In this scope one-man turrets which were previously produced and put into service in other countries will be produced with a state of art fire control capability and site systems day slash night.

The turrets will be manufactured at FNSS facilities will then be integrated into tracked armored vehicles by FNSS in the philippines and delivered to the user. The acceptance tests will take place both in turkey and the philippines and the training for the turrets will be held in philippines under the integrated logistics support services activities. Sabre is a medium caliber one-man power operated turret that can be integrated on wheeled and tracked armored vehicles. Saber Turret incorporates the latest technologies in turret drives, fire control protection and lethality.Iits compact dimensions and lightweight makes sabre a suitable choice for different types of armored vehicles.

The Turret can be configured with three types of main armament based on user requirements and two forty two twenty five millimeters dual feed automatic cannon, forty millimeters Automatic Grenade Launcher (AGL) and a 12.7 millimeters machine gun. a 7.62 millimeters coaxial machine gun is also available with all these configurations. The turret drive system is electrical with two axis stabilization capability to ensure a high accuracy of fire on the move. Under the contract signed between fnss and the Department of National Defense (DND) Philippines which entered into force in november FNSS will provide a number of amphibious armored combat earth mover vehicles and their logistics support services. It is planned that the vehicles will be delivered and the training and logistics support services will be completed by the end of march 2023.

Within the modernization program of the philippine army the main goal of this project is to increase the combat engineering capabilities of the combat engineer battalion units and to carry these capabilities to further stages with the ability of the amphibious vehicles. In this scope the subsystems and mission equipment used in the vehicle has been evaluated and determined according to today's technological developments in line with this program. Vehicles will be manufactured at FNSS facilities will then be delivered to the user by FNSS in the philippines army.

The acceptance tests will take place both in turkey and the philippines and the training for the vehicles will be held in philippines under the integrated logistics support services activities. AACE which is the first and only combat engineering dozer vehicle with amphibious capability in the world has proven itself successfully in the inventory of turkish armed forces and has been exported abroad for the first time with this reference. FNSS is aiming to keep serving the philippine army with this project. Also AACE will be the second project after the fnss one-man turret project under the defense industry cooperation agreement signed between turkish and the philippine governments.

Turkish defense company FNSS defense systems confirmed that it has signed a contract with the philippine government for the supply and delivery of one-man turrets for integration and installation on armored vehicles and kunda's amphibious armored combat earth propulsion aace for the Philippine Army (PA). According to fnss the contract for one-man turrets was signed in august 2020 under the turkey philippine defense industry cooperation agreement and involves the supply and installation of a number of advanced turrets for armored vehicles.

The turret is expected to be fully integrated into the pa armored vehicle by october 2021 and training and logistics support to be completed by december 2021. While information is limited philippine defense website philippine defense resource reports that the project involves the supply of the bae system sharpshooter manned turret which was built under license by fnss and is similar to that delivered by fnss to malaysia several years ago. The turret is said to be mounted on several acv 300 pa armored personnel carriers which FNSS delivered to the pa in 2010.

This will allow the conversion of the vehicle to an infantry fighting vehicle ifv on a daily basis, night skills. FNSS also confirmed that another contract was signed with the philippines department of national defense in november 2020 which involved the supply and delivery of the FNSS Kundas AACE. The vehicle will be built at the FNSS facility in turkey and is expected to be fully delivered by march 2023 with acceptance tests to be carried out in turkey and the philippines.

The Kundas aace is the only amphibious armored combat ground mover on the market and will enhance the PA's combat engineering capabilities. Philippine defense resources confirmed that at least six vehicles are being monitored by the pa for acquiring new combat engineering equipment as part of its modernization program.
