Leaked Pentagon Documents: 'Solar Panels in Chinese Spy Balloons Have Surface Reconnaissance Capabilities'

In the aftermath of the leaking of classified Pentagon documents by Jack Douglas Teixeira (21 years), a Cyber Systems officer from the Massachusetts Air National Guard, some information was revealed that caused a commotion.

Despite the revelations of US and NATO special forces involvement in Ukraine, casualties in Ukraine were higher than US officials and ammunition-strapped Ukrainian forces publicly admit. It was also revealed about the 'contents' of the Chinese spy balloon that was shot down in early February.

From the documents leaked by Teixeira, it shows that the Chinese spy balloon that was shot down used solar panels to carry out a reconnaissance mission to the surface. Leaked Pentagon documents state that the balloon has a solar power capacity of 10 KW; similar to what is found on the roof structure of residents in the US..

Solar panels are reportedly being used to collect data and produce images at night – a technology called synthetic aperture radar. With the power of the Sun, it also allows radar to penetrate clouds to describe objects more clearly.

The balloon also has a long attached antenna measuring 20 – 30 meters, but the role of the antenna is unclear, the report said. The balloon also contains a 1.2 meter diameter parabolic dish and several sensors that have yet to be identified.

Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said in a recent press conference: “I am not going to comment on what is collected. We're still doing our analysis now. The Intelligence Community is involved in that.”

“The government identified the problem, we addressed the problem, we felt confident in the countermeasures we could take, that the balloon could not collect sensitive information that would provide any additional information that satellite would not. Can't collect yet.

In February, a balloon from China was shot down off the coast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The balloon's surveillance capabilities, which are described in US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) documents, were recently leaked on chat site Discord by Jack Teixeira who was indicted April 14 for illegally copying and transmitting classified material.

The Washington Post reports that leaked documents confirm that the balloon contains enough solar panels to activate a sophisticated radar that can produce images at night.
