The United States imposed new sanctions on Russia targeting the technology sector, while opening the possibility to act on additional sectors in response to Russia's attack on Ukraine.
The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on 21 entities and 13 people, including Micron, Russia's largest chipmaker and microelectronic manufacturer and exporter.
"We will continue to target Putin's war machine with sanctions from every angle, until this war of senseless choices ends," US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement.
The US also determined that three new sectors in the Russian economy were subject to sanctions under the existing executive order. This allows the United States to impose punitive action on any person or entity operating in the aerospace, marine and electronics sectors.
Those targeted included Serniya Engineering and Moscow-based equipment maker Sertal. The two companies are accused by the US Treasury of working to illegally procure equipment and technology for Russia's defense sector that could be multiplied for civilian use.
Washington has imposed sanctions several times since Russia launched its biggest attack on a European nation since World War Two.
"Western countries will try to find new reasons for sanctions against Russia," said Russian President Vladimir Putin.
