Feeling threatened by Russia's actions, Sweden since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine has shown full support in the form of logistical supplies and weapons to Ukraine. Which incidentally has stripped Sweden of its status which has been known to be neutral in the arena of global armed conflict. Even more worried about being invaded by Russia, there is news that Sweden in May 2022 will join as a member of NATO.
Quoted from armyrecognition.com (26/4/2022), since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Sweden has sent 5,000 Saab AT-4 anti-tank rockets, 5,000 Model12 bulletproof vests, 5,000 M90 helmets and 135,000 field rations, all of which worth around €40 million.
Although there has been no official confirmation from the Swedish government, there is news related to Sweden's joining to NATO, namely the delivery of heavy weapons in the form of self propelled howitzer (SPH) Archer Artillery System.
The name Archer Artillery System still feels foreign to some netizens, but this is the SPH made in Sweden produced by BAE Systems Bofors. At the heart of the Archer is the fully automatic 155 mm L52 howitzer and the secondary M151 Protector remote controlled weapon station for the 12.7 mm heavy machine gun mounted on a modified Volvo A30D 6×6 articulated haul truck.
The crew and engine compartments are armored and the cab is equipped with bulletproof and shatterproof windows. Additionally, the Archer Artillery System consists of an ammunition supply vehicle, support vehicle, submunitions and M982 guided projectiles.
The base of the howitzer used is the Haubits FH77 designed by Bofors in 1978. The barrel of the howitzer has an elevation angle of -1/+70 degrees. In terms of performance, the Archer Artillery System can release 20 projectiles in 2.5 minutes, or 1 projectile in 7.5 seconds.
Speaking of shooting range, when using standard munitions the shooting range is 30 km, using base bleed munitions 40 km and when using Excalibur munitions 60 km.
Based on a Volvo A30D 6×6 and a 340 hp diesel engine, the Archer can go up to a maximum speed of 65 km per hour and a cruising range of up to 500 km. The system is designed for high strategic, operational and tactical mobility. The vehicle traverses snow to a depth of one meter and can be transported by rail and can be transported by air on an Airbus A400M aircraft.
Weighing 30 tons, the Archer Artillery System has 3-4 personnel (commander, driver, 1-2 operators) but in an emergency the driver and gunner can operate the vehicle.
