Ukraine has been "flooded" with weapons from the United States (US) and
NATO, as well as advisers "countless" from Western countries. The statement
was made by Russia's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in a statement
on its website.
"Growing Russophobia among its citizens and like-minded countries, talking
about the accumulation of Russian troops as almost the root cause of all
problems, (the US) forgot to clarify that the talk was about Russian troops
on Russian territory," the statement said. Sputnik on Wednesday (26/1/2022).
“This is in contrast to the countless American and NATO arsenals and
advisers that have flooded Ukraine and several other countries close to
Russia's borders. There is also no explanation for what the American navy
did, which increased tensions in the Black Sea region, near the Russian
coast," the Russian Mission statement said.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden confirmed earlier in the day that there
was no intention to deploy American or NATO troops to Ukraine.
Russia also said the US was supporting militants in Syria's Idlib and
strengthening the positions of the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.
"Under the pretext of treating Syrians forcibly detained by Hayat Tahrir
al-Sham in Idlib as human shields, American diplomacy at the expense of its
taxpayers is actually supporting the militants," the Russian mission at the
United Nations said.
"By strengthening Hayat Tahrir al-Sham's position, Washington shot itself in
the face, declaring its commitment to the territorial integrity of the
Syrian Arab Republic," the statement said.
The Russian diplomat also added that Moscow regrets that Washington
considers drawing the dividing line and including other countries at the
United Nations one of its achievements in the organization in 2021.
"It is regrettable that American colleagues, in keeping with sad tradition,
openly cite drawing the dividing line, organizing duplicate and
non-inclusive events outside the UN, 'containing' other countries throughout
the UN system as one of their main achievements. in 2021," said the Russian
Mission.
The document was published in response to a press release from the US
Permanent Mission to the United Nations dated January 20, in which American
officials presented the so-called alleged restoration of United States
leadership at the United Nations in the first year of Joe Biden's
presidency.
Tensions between Russia and NATO have risen recently, as Kiev and a number
of alliance members have expressed concern about the alleged "concentration"
of Russian troops near its border with Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia was moving troops within its own
territory and at its discretion.
According to him, the activity did not threaten anyone. Moscow has
repeatedly denied allegations of planned aggression against Ukraine. Russia
warns arming Kiev could encourage it to use force against the
Russian-speaking Donbass region.
