North Korea (North Korea) on Monday (17/1/2022) fired a missile, which was probably a ballistic missile. This is the fourth missile maneuver by the Kim Jong-un regime's military so far this month.
The Japanese Coast Guard, as quoted by VoA, confirmed missile fire from North Korea into the Sea of Japan or the East Sea. The South Korean military also reported the same thing, calling it an "unidentified projectile" fire.
Since the first day of the New Year's 2022, North Korea has conducted three other missile tests, an unusual frequency of weapons tests. Two of the launches Pyongyang claimed involved high-speed, maneuverable hypersonic missiles after launch.
A third missile test fire took place on Friday, involving a pair of short-range ballistic missiles (SRBM) fired from a train carriage. It was not immediately known what type of missile was tested this morning.
The series of missile launches prompted the administration of US President Joe Biden to impose its first sanctions on Pyongyang on Wednesday.
The US also asked the UN Security Council to blacklist some North Korean individuals and entities on a sanctions blacklist.
North Korea has defended missile tests as its sovereign right of self-defense and accused the United States of deliberately escalating the situation by imposing new sanctions.
