Getting to know OpenSea, Where Ghozali benefits Billions from NFT Selfie Photos

Ghozali Everyday (name) is viral on social media because he managed to sell NFT or non-fungible tokens in the form of selfies on the OpenSea digital asset marketplace. This marketplace has indeed been on the rise, driven by the trend of NFT purchases.

According to a note from Coindesk, OpenSea itself was founded by Devin Finzer and Alex Atallah in New York, United States (US) in 2017. Through this marketplace, users can create NFTs for free and offer direct purchases or auctions.

OpenSea is based on the Ethereum and Polygon cryptocurrency standards. This is a standard transaction interface using non-exchangeable cryptocurrencies, such as a deed for a work of art or a song. Advertisement NFT transactions on OpenSea itself grew rapidly earlier this year.

"The OpenSea market has headed 'Moon' and recorded the highest volume ever," quoted from Coindesk, Friday (14/1). Based on data from Dune Analytics, in the middle of January, OpenSea has generated nearly US$ 2.7 billion in transactions.

As of January 9 alone, OpenSea recorded a transaction volume of US$ 261 million. Meanwhile, the average transaction per day reaches US$ 150 million. OpenSea itself has recently succeeded in raising series C funding of US$ 300 million from investors. Series C funding was led by venture capital investors Paradigm and Coatue.

Through this fundraising, OpenSea managed to collect a valuation of US$ 13.3 billion. However, in the NFT market, OpenSea is now facing competition from the newly launched marketplace, LooksRare. This marketplace has generated transactions of nearly US$ 400 million.

OpenSea itself recorded fast transactions boosted by the trend of NFT purchases. According to a CNN report, NFTs are digital assets that represent original objects such as artwork, music, or items contained in videos and games in JPEG, PNG, MP4, and other formats. These crypto-type assets cannot be duplicated or replaced.

Based on DappRadar data, NFT sales increased 10 times last year. During the first, second and third quarters of last year, the value reached US$ 1.2 billion, US$ 1.3 billion, and US$ 10.7 billion. In Indonesia, the name Ghozali Everyday went viral on social media after selling NFT on OpenSea. Ghozali Everyday trading volume reached 314 Ethereum as of Friday (14/1).

While the price of Ethereum reached US$ 3.213 per coin. According to "Ghozali Everyday" account on OpenSea, he sells NFT in the form of selfie photos from the age of 18 to 22 years or in the period 2017-2021.

"This is really a picture of me standing in front of the computer day after day," reads the profile of Ghozali Everyday.

Besides Ghozali, several celebrities from Indonesia have started selling NFTs. The latest one is Anang Hermansyah and Ashanty. Both plan to launch NFT under the name ASIX. Digital assets such as crypto will be able to be purchased through IDM Token's IDM Launchpad.

"So these guys have never existed. ASIX tokens will soon start a private sale," said Ashanty via The Hermansyah A6 YouTube account, last week (7/1). "And, presale," said Anang.

Previously, one of the artists from Indonesia Syahrini launched NFT last month. “Welcome to the Metaverse. I am very happy to announce my first NFT," said this celebrity via Instagram account @princesssyahrini, late last year (13/12/2021).

Syahrini managed to sell 17,800 NFT. The price is 20 Binance USD (BUSD) or around US$ 20,05 per NFT on the Binance crypto exchange.

Meanwhile, another artist, Luna Maya, sold NFT in Bakery Swap in June. However, the number is very limited, only 10.

The Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil, also created an NFT account at Opensea. It aims to be an exchange for digital works of creative economy players (Ekraf) to get offers from the global market.
