A CEO of a famous chocolate company decided to retire from his job. He then
gathered his two sons together and said, “Go and meet the suppliers, discuss
with them ideas for new chocolate flavours”.
The eldest son then left and came back proudly saying, “They have the
potential to supply raspberries, coconuts and pistachios”.
The youngest son came back and said, “Suppliers have made sure they can
supply us with new flavors like raspberry, coconut and pistachio.
They are also willing to negotiate a lower price if we invest more in
raspberries and coconut. They will even give wholesale prices for one more
flavor variant they are making if we are interested.”
Hearing the explanation from his two sons, the CEO then decided to hand over
the position to his youngest son.
1. They are initiative people and always think "outside the box".
Obeying the rules is certain, but that doesn't mean you can't
innovate
Reflecting on the story above, it shows that most people don't think outside
the box. How long have you been sitting at work and doing the exact same job
you were told? You never deviate from the directions at all?
Know that this is a trap. It's not that, being successful, people who do the
same thing without taking the initiative will never grow.
Successful people will think of more efficient ways to do things and always
think "outside the box".
2. Be proactive, not reactive. Control your life, not life that
controls you
For example, you are a student. When one of your friends does something
unpleasant, of course it will create an uncomfortable atmosphere for you.
If you are a reactive person, this uncomfortable condition will greatly
affect the quality of your activities. You respond to stimuli based on
perceived conditions (feelings).
But if you are a proactive person, this uncomfortable condition will not
affect productivity. Even if there is an influence, you will still hold on
to certain values.
If your value is studying or working your best to create achievement, then
whatever the environmental conditions you are facing, the value will always
be your focus. In this case, you respond to a stimulus based on value.
Successful people are those who are proactive and always hold on to values
as the basis for acting, no matter what happens.
3. Be responsible for all the problems that occur in his life, not
running from reality
Successful people realize that no one can handle the problems in their life
but themselves. Responsibility for oneself determines the awareness of each
person to fulfill his own obligations in developing personality.
For example, as a student, you must understand and realize your position
to always study and do all your homework with dedication, because things
like that will affect your own success in the end. These things have
nothing to do with other people, because it is we who determine the course
of our lives, our future.
4. Turn stress into positive energy; Focus on what you can control,
ignore what you can't
When you feel worried and anxious because of stress, the positive thing to
do is to focus your mind on the things you can control and forget about
the things you can't control.
Focus on a list of problems that you can face, then immediately arrange
concrete steps that can be taken to solve them. This way will make you
able to break stress and have positive energy to go further to achieve the
goals you are targeting.
5. Use SMART principles; specific, measurable, achievable, realistic
and timely, to achieve your goals
Many goals can not be realized perfectly, even can not be executed at all.
So that goal is just a fantasy. In the end, it's not a goal, but just
hopelessness, depression, and low self-esteem.
- Specifics: Get to know what you really want by answering the 5W1H questions
- Measurable: Know the distance between your current position and the position of the goal to be achieved, how big or how far
- Achievable: Estimate how likely it is to achieve the goal with the strategy you have
- Realistic: Prove that the goal can be realized
- On time: Set a target when your goal can be realized
6. Stay consistent
Doing something consistently is very important in life. Consistency is an
effort to continue and continue to do something until it reaches the end
goal. If you are pursuing a dream, goal, or target, make sure you can
maintain consistency. Because passion is not enough. You have to have
self-discipline to be consistent.
Don't be afraid to fail, because the only way to success is to fail. Why
are successful people in the minority, because there are not many who can
consistently get up every time they fall.
Well, if you have done the habits above, including taking the initiative
and being proactive, then congratulations, you are included in the 10%
group of successful people!
