China Scared, Shock Waves China as Unexpected New Player Gets Involved in South China Sea

The country had after the second world war enriched pacifism into its constitution to prevent it from fighting large-scale wars but prime minister Shinzo Abe has made a reinterpretation which allows the use of military forces to defend allies. The warship izumo left a philippine port along with two destroyers after a series of drills over a two-month period.

In may tokyo ships were in the bay of bengal in an unprecedented exercise with France, Australia and the United States. Canada, India, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei and the Philippines have also conducted drills with the japan maritime self-defense force. Japan is set to increase the stakes by configuring Izumo to accommodate u.s stealth fighters with tokyo being 42 of its own.

U.S President Donald Trump has voiced his opposition that the agreements between tokyo and washington mean that the u.s is responsible for what he regards as a disproportionate amount of japan's defense. Yasukazu Tanaka the amphibious rapid deployment brigade admitted to the south china morning post the ship could accommodate air and sea transport so there are great possibilities for us to conduct amphibious operations.

China posses the largest claims in the south china sea region but the u.s and other naval forces have sold close to beijing occupied islands, annoying their rivals. While on the drill izumo came close to skirting into what china claims as its territorial waters while operating with the navies of brunei and the philippines. Tokyo has also been hosting lectures for young officers from their southeast asian allies on law, navigation, communications and disaster relief.

Muhammad Daniel Ben Matt Yusof a junior Lieutenant in the royal brunei navy said especially with the territorial and boundaries part, i think that would be vital information for us. Tokyo and beijing have historically had a cold relationship but escort flotilla one commander Hiroshi Agawa insisted. This indo-pacific deployment is not an operation that is aimed at any one specific country. Since the end of the second world war japan has only been involved in four armed conflicts.

The first was the war in vietnam in which japan occurred during the second world war and after french rule was successfully restored in 1946 japan did not get involved in the subsequent first into china war. The next incident did not occur until december 22nd 2001 when a north korean spy boat was spotted in japan's exclusive economic zone, the korean trawler was sunk in a few short hours.

Japanese military forces were briefly involved in the iraq war but mainly stuck to humanitarian efforts. The most recent deployment was another naval mission as japan was involved in the anti-piracy initiative operation ocean shield in the area around the horn of africa. China is an emerging power in the current world.

China has come a long way from its former position to its current one. the chinese communist party came to power in 1949 by defeating Chiang Kai-Shek's Kuomintang party and under Mao Zedong, china's economic growth continued.

China is currently the second largest economy in the world. the cold war is currently raging between the superpowers america and china. International experts have dubbed at the new cold war. China has disputes with the united states over the hong kong taiwan issue. the south china sea, the east china sea, the sino-us trade crisis and so on.

At present there is tension over the south china sea in this superpower. the united states has already formed quads with india japan and australia to reduce china's growing influence in south asia and the indo-pacific region. The south china sea issue is an important issue in international politics, but there are reasons why this tension is growing.

During world war II japan occupied the islands in the south china sea. after the defeat of japan the cairo and potsdam declarations of 1943 and 1945 recognized the rights of the republic of china to the islands and the south china sea. In 1947 the then nationalist chinese government formally annexed 159 islands islands and shelf states. Various historical events from the time of world war ii to the present day have turned the south china sea into the center of tension in the world today.

The south china sea is very important in international geopolitics. The south china sea is an important international shipping lane, but over the years numerous small islands in the sea many of which have been claiming ownership of coral islands, coral reefs and islands have been the focus of controversy in the region for some time has become more and more vocal. The country claims the disputed area has been part of china for centuries and china has gradually strengthened its military presence there in support of their claim.

Under u.n maritime law an independent state can claim maritime territory up to 12 nautical miles from its coast. Moreover the area up to 200 nautical miles is called the exclusive economic zone. In this region they can enjoy the freedom of natural resources, aquatic animals or fish, construction of artificial islands and others.
