The desire of the United States (US) to boycott the purchase of oil and gas from Russia has not been obeyed by many countries. This is because many countries continue to supply oil from the former Soviet Union
For example, India, which had previously stated that it would comply with US orders, was still buying oil from Russia. Reliance Industries Ltd., operator of the world's largest oil refining complex, has ordered at least 15 million barrels of Russian oil since last February the start of the invasion.
Reuters sources said Reliance had bought an average of 5 million barrels per month for the June quarter. Not only India, citing the Wall Street Journal, European countries have even increased Russia's oil purchasing capacity.
This purchase was carried out discreetly, as it was increasingly difficult to trace because many tankers loaded with oil were marked with unknown destinations.
Research institute TankerTrackers noted that oil exports from Russian ports to EU member states as the main buyers have increased to an average of 1.6 million barrels per day so far in April.
In fact, exports have fallen to 1.3 million per day in March after the invasion of Ukraine. Similar data from Kpler, another commodity data provider, showed the upflow of Russian oil shipments increased from 1 million in mid-March to 1.3 million per day in April.
Oil from Russian ports is increasingly being shipped to unknown destinations. In April so far, more than 11.1 million barrels were loaded onto tankers without a planned route, more than any other country.
Several countries cited one reason for obscuring the origin of Russian oil because countries desperately need crude oil to keep the economy going and prevent fuel prices from soaring.
