The Chinese Red Cross will provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine "as soon as possible", Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Monday, praising his country's "solid" friendship with Russia.
China has refused to condemn Russia's attack on Ukraine, or call it an invasion, while calling on Western countries to respect the "legitimate security concerns" of the land of the red bear.
Wang said the causes of the "Ukrainian situation" were "complex" and did not happen overnight.
"Solving complex problems requires calm and rationality rather than adding fuel to the fire and escalating contradictions," he told a news conference on the sidelines of China's annual parliamentary meeting.
China is willing to continue to make its own efforts to resolve the humanitarian crisis. The Chinese Red Cross will "as soon as possible" provide some assistance to Ukraine, Wang said, without giving details.
And, Wang stressed, the friendship between China and Russia is "solid" and the prospects for cooperation between the two countries are bright.
"No matter how bad the international situation, both China and Russia will maintain their strategic resolve and continue to push for a comprehensive strategic coordination partnership in the new era," he said.
