Toyota Motor Corp said it would suspend all domestic plant operations on Tuesday (1/3).
This comes after the automaker lost about 13,000 cars after a company that supplies plastic parts and electronic components was suspected of being hit by a cyber attack.
No information was immediately available about who was behind the attack or the motive. The attack came just after Japan joined allies in pressuring Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, though it's not clear whether the attacks were related at all.
A spokesman for the supplier, Kojima Industries Corp., said it appeared to be some kind of cyber attack. A spokeswoman from Toyota described it as a "supplier system failure."
The production shutdown comes as the world's biggest automaker tackles the worldwide supply chain disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic that has forced it and other automakers to curb production.
Toyota this month also saw some production halt in North America due to a parts shortage caused by protests by Canadian truck drivers.
