The United States plans to deploy a lot of military forces in Eastern
European countries or at Russia's doorstep.
America's recklessness ignores Moscow's anger, which from the outset opposed
NATO's military expansion into the east. US President Joe Biden said the
deployment of more troops would be imminent.
Biden made the announcement while giving an update on the situation in
Ukraine after he got off the Air Force One plane, Friday night Washington
time or Saturday (29/1/2022) WIB.
Asked about whether he had decided how quickly he would move US troops into
Eastern Europe, Biden said it would be in the near future.
"I will be moving US troops to Eastern Europe in NATO countries in the near
future," he said, CBS News senior correspondent Weijia Jiang reported at the
White House.
On Monday, the Pentagon announced that about 8,500 American troops had been
placed on "high alert" for deployment to Eastern Europe.
Speaking at a briefing earlier on Friday, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin
said the troops would be used to strengthen the security of NATO countries.
However, Austin, ruled out the involvement of US troops in any military
action in Ukraine.
"President Joe Biden did not intend to deploy troops into Ukraine for combat
operations," the Pentagon chief said.
